I have just loaded dragon version nine professional. I have elected not to train the programme at all and in fact try out the programme without any voice training.

This entire post is written by voice using dragon version 9 untrained. I'm not going to make any corrections at all. What you see is exactly what I got using dragon the first day without training it at all.

The initial loading of dragon and setting up is very similar to version 8. As is setting up the user. There are some new options in the input device section. There are some additional options in the custom install section. These will be useful when loading dragon on many machines within a network. When using dragon professional.

After using dragon today completely untrained eye will intend on training the program tomorrow to see what the improvement is. I will dictate another passage without correcting it so that you can see exactly what you will get.

He results may vary a little bit as I am fairly used to dictating and his infatuation with dragon. But so far it looks pretty reasonable to use the program without training but I don't think I would recommend it as a long-term proposition is it still making a few mistakes as you would expect.

I'll make a post to follow this up tomorrow after I have completed the five-minute training. I will then make another post after completing approximately 40 minute strain. If anyone has any specific questions or would like me to read about a specific topic then please post here and I will do so.

Cheers

I have now completed a single five-minute training session. I'm using a basic USB headset and the Australian English component of Dragon NaturallySpeaking Professional version 9. I will not make any corrections to this text.

So far the program is progressing quite well. Using it for the Internet and for my e-mail. I also use it to create documents within Word which I copy into my website.

Some of the new features of Dragon version 9 very interesting and useful. An example of this is the transcription folder. With this folder you can copy audio files into the folder and Dragon NaturallySpeaking will run the audio files through the speech engine and produce a text result inside the folder. So you can leave this running after night with several audio files and in the morning you have a result of several text files with the transcribed text.

It is definitely worth while training the software as I'm getting much better results now that I have completed just the five-minute training. So I'd recommend that you complete the five-minute training at least initially.

I will post some more results later on.

Please feel free to post some raw results using Dragon naturally speaking in this thread.
Cheers

Very disappointed so far?. V7 worked fine, but V9 soooo slow as to be unusable.

Pay for the upgrade, and now it seems I have to pay for another 512Mb of RAM ? more like 1G ? and get a noise cancelling mike.

Just for a slight improvement in accuracy ??

Thats why we always recommed 1024mb + and a USB headset to our customers. :)

Its something you should have checked with your supplier before ordering.

512mb is just not enough RAM and the clarity of a proper USB headset will make a world of difference to speed and accuracy.
