I wish to purchase Dragon Preferred 9.5 and run it on a portable computer. A friend recommended Lenovo or Acer because they are available cheaply through BigW and Officeworks. What is the minimum effective model to run 9.5, using Windows XP and Office XP please? Anyone with experience in this?

I have run Dragon on some pretty slow laptops... That said I wouldn't recommend it. With XP I would just use any processor that's over 1Ghz (which means anything you can buy today really) even just an AMD or something equiv. to save cash.
The main thing is the RAM and soundcard. Luckily RAM is a pretty cheap component so i'd aim for 1GB (on Windows XP) and just get a USB headset... In my experience you do anything less than about those stats and you'll end up regretting it. Whether its an Acer, Lenovo, Dell or Vaio shouldnt really matter in terms of performance... Runs 'ok' on my old el cheapo Compaq (which is running 756MB of RAM and an AMD 3200 just quietly).
